In the beginning, there was nothing but emptiness. Time lay still and silent and light had not profaned the sacred dark of the universe.
Then, with one thought, Ehnhylond willed himself into existence. The universe shuddered as existence was rudely intruded upon by the awareness of something that should not be, and with his birth, did time begin to roll down the endless eons.
Ehnhylond looked upon the vast nothingness, and his silent thought did say, "Truly, this is not how it should be." Then, even as he said those unspoken words was the fabric of reality was wrenched as seven other awareness's came into being, wiling themselves into existence, even as he had done.
And then did six of the silent voices join with Ehnhylond to say in unspoken words, "Truly, this should not be."
And in the nothingness, did one unspoken voice remain silent, and did it retreat into the depths of the nothingness, away from the unnatural, implacable march of time, and from the thought of it's siblings, who would profane the sacred dark of the emptiness, and the departing of the other awareness did go unnoticed, as the gods did join together in joyous song and thought, joining hands and wills to create in unison, with a single, thought, that which we know as reality.
The Fire god did place stars in the dark to fill the heavens. The god of light did illuminate the sky, and the black of the nothingness. The earth god did create the planets as a home for all beings. The water god gave precious life to the planet upon which we now dwell. The Thunder god did create the clouds and the rain which feed our crops. The wind god did create storms and gales to breathe life into the air and move the clouds of the thunder god to where they were needed. The ice god did cap the mountains of the earth, and create the icy glaciers above and below the continents to ward creatures away from the empty expanse.
Then, in unison did the gods create the creatures that swim in the oceans, that fly thought the air, that walk upon the land.
Then did Ehnhylond look upon the earth, and he did see that it was barren. Barren without thinking, talking creatures to live, mould it, and secretly in his mind did he desire their adulation and worship.
He implored his siblings to join with him in creating man, and reluctantly did they do so, but they did create man not as Ehnhylond had desired, they created man as a savage. A cave dwelling animal, and did they say, "The world is thine, man creatures. Thine for the taking, and to shape as thou wouldst."
And the gods did step away from man, to allow him to grow and make what he would of creation.
In time, did men seek out things to worship, to thank for the bounty of the harvest, and the love of their mates.
They erected crude idols to false gods, and in fury did Ehnhylond break the bonds of his compact with his siblings, presenting himself in his righteous fury to man, and then did the crude men of ages past fall on their faces in fear and adulation, and Ehnhylond did relent, taking them for his own, basking in their worship.
And Ehnhylond's siblings were disquieted by this. They had not wished this to be so, and had desired for man to make his own way, and should he choose to worship them, they would take his adulation and reward him richly. But Ehnhylond had interrupted their spiritual growth, out of jealousy and want.
And then did the other gods decide to reveal themselves unto the peoples of the earth, and did they each take those people who did satisfy them, and take them away with them, across the face of the world.
In time man made huts and hovels, living in rude settlements, and in time did they learn how to mine and smith copper, mixing it with molten tin to make bronze.
They cast aside their crude stone tools, and took up axes and daggers of bronze. Soon man began to make weapons of war, to impose their reign and religion upon their neighbours.
The gods, too busy basking in the adulation of their worshipers and tending to the seasons took no note of this, and rapidly, did all the world descend into war.
Keenly did the gods feel the pain as scores of their worshipers fell in atrocious war, as they had become intertwined with their peoples, and it was with great agony that the gods all suffered, till they themselves rose to do war upon one another, leading their people in furious battle.
Alliances between the gods were made, and to this day none know which deities fought beside each other.
As the gods met, whole armies were obliterated, mountains reduced to rubble and the ground was rent asunder, until a thunderous voice rose above the chaos, freezing all who stood on the field of battle in mid stride.
The goddess of light stood atop the shattered peak of a mountain, and her voice throbbed with emotion, with undeniable power. Truly had her siblings discarded her as but an irritation, but with pleading tears, cries of misery and steel like conviction did she bring all to a halt.
Heavily did her words weigh upon the hearts and minds of all who heard them, and the gods were most strongly affected. They swore to go apart and never to do war upon one another in person again, as they had almost destroyed their child, the earth in their rage.
They returned with their peoples to the lands that were their own, and in unison did the gods erect mighty mountain ranges to separate their children, and define the kingdoms over which they ruled.
And then did the gods go apart from men, but not before each created another race, another set of creatures to live on their earth and keep man from destroying themselves in jealousy, greed or hatred.
The Fire god created vampires, to plague the race of man, to give them a common enemy.
The Earth god created Lycanthropes, also to plague the race of man, to give them a common enemy.
The ice god created elves that live in the forests, to show man honour and civilization.
The water god created the Drow that live beneath the earth, to keep a watchful eye on their cousins, and man, from unassailable safety.
The wind god created Faeries, to turn the seasons and show the creatures of the earth compassion.
The light god created angels, to walk among us, hidden, serving the gods and holding a silent vigil, ready to summon the gods back, should the world ever begin descend into chaos once more.
And in all the chaos, did some men go apart from their brother’s, to live in isolation beneath the mountains, living apart from the world in underground cities, changed and protected by the power of their sorcerers.
And through all of this, the one unnamed spirit, the silent god sat and watched. This was not as he wanted, this should not be. Emptiness was sacred, and all must then, be destroyed.
And he set out to corrupt the souls of the god's servants and did he create Demons to plague mankind, preying upon them, and did he fill hell with these creatures, an unholy army, to await the day upon which he could strike.
And silently, invisibly did the king of hell, the god of darkness scheme and plot, for he was he eighth spirit, and he abhorred all that was.
Now it is roughly 13,372 years after the Great War, around 18,264 years after the creation.
The gods no longer walk among men, but have gone apart, leaving their worshipers in the hands of their priesthoods.
The leaders of each priesthood are constantly fighting secret wars with one another for the hearts and minds of men, and they are mostly all well versed in magic.
They have assembled scores of knights to fight for their gods, though all hope they will never be needed.
Though recently, some tales tell of fire tornadoes in Caraengna, waterspouts in Khovo, blizzards in Bakorte, and all the signs that the gods are once again, returning to the land.
It is said that they will come among us in human form, creating physical vessels for themselves.
Why we do not truthfully know, nor can we even begin to speculate, let us pray however, that it does not signal the beginning of another, War Of The gods.
